Poster Design

Freelance

Design + Graphics

  • Procreate App
  • Hand Sketches
  • AI Generated Images
  • Animated versions
  • Final Design

One of the most common freelance gigs I run into are poster design commissions. These are the most fun and typically give me creative freedom.

They don’t always require a printed version but the typical deliverables are

  •  Print
  • Instagram Reel/Story/Post

Approach

I typically sketch out my ideas until I come to a good concept. Then I take that to my Procreate App and flesh it out into a real design for review.

Another process I use is to pull my sketches into Adobe Illustrator, especially more detailed illustrations. This is the preferred process for projects that have an animated version because I can pull the individual parts into Adobe After Effects

Poster Graphics + Illustration + Animation

"Barbenheimmer"

I generated multiple iterations of a cool Barbie image in Midjourney until I got this 80’s style, Top Gun-looking result. I downloaded the mushroom cloud footage from public domain stock footage and created a mask with the glasses.

Friday the 13th

Made with Procreate and Photoshop, I illustrated this black cat with teeth that spell “Friday” for a spooky theme. I used multiple reference photos on Google search for the anatomy of the cat mouth.

Most bands don’t have transparent png’s so I also typically take these into Illustrator, vectorize them and remove the background.

Vibes Underground

I made this one entirely in Adobe Illustrator while referencing retro TV interface’s on Pinterest. I pulled the elements into Adobe After Effects to create the animated version.

Women's Meetup

An event I created and produced with a talented group of women, the graphics were punchy, bold and memorable. You can see this full project here.

Live Oak Singers

LOS were my clients for two years. Their director was my coworker at Vericast. These are two of the poster designs that I enjoyed creating. The VHS poster design came from a rough sketch they made me for reference and I was able to make it come to life. Their posters were always for Facebook and for large prints.
